About the Role

We are seeking two highly skilled Technologists in Instrumentation and Measurement to join our team at the National Research Council Canada (NRC). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and operation of various instruments and equipment required for our research activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the installation, maintenance, and operation of instruments and equipment for research activities in combustion testing and research laboratories.
  • Perform calibration of critical and non-critical instruments following established procedures and quality-based instructions from ISO-9001-2015.
  • Assist in the design, development, and assembly of electronic and software systems for real-time control and measurement.
  • Provide technical expertise to define needs and select scientific instrumentation, components, and software.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Technology in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Process Control.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Process Control with at least 5 years of relevant experience in industry.
  • Appreciable experience in experimental measurement techniques and signal conditioning/treatment.
  • Appreciable experience in designing, specifying, and developing instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems.
  • Appreciable experience in maintaining, calibrating, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic measurement instruments under pressure to provide rapid and robust solutions.
  • Basic experience in using laboratory or industrial process programming languages (LabVIEW or PLC) to develop customized software and integrate equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Basic experience in planning and implementing technical projects, including delegating tasks and developing cost estimates, status updates, and schedules.
Selection Criteria
  • Technical skills: in-depth knowledge of instrument specification, installation, and calibration, including standards for measurement.
  • Technical skills: practical knowledge of software design principles and use of software such as LabVIEW and/or ladder logic programming.
  • Technical skills: practical knowledge of electronic and electromechanical system design, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Technical skills: in-depth knowledge of calibration techniques and measurement precision analysis.
  • Technical skills: practical knowledge of safety practices and methods used in industrial installations.
  • Technical skills: basic knowledge of various manual tools used for assembling instrumentation systems.
