Metals Trading Specialist

Job Overview
The Metals Trading Specialist will oversee the execution and assessment of trades within the Commercial Metals Trading Group. This role entails a thorough analysis of the metals commodity market, both internationally and domestically, focusing on demand, inventory levels, and profit margins. The specialist will evaluate opportunities for both physical and financial trading, enhancing assets through various channels. This position encompasses all aspects of executing physical shipments, ensuring contract execution aligns with agreed terms in a safe and cost-efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee and manage all relevant buy/sell contracts and associated shipment volumes.
- Develop and nurture relationships with new clients to identify high-value opportunities while maintaining existing partnerships.
- Assist in creating long-term strategies to expand market presence and acquire assets in the designated market area, enhancing business sustainability.
- Collaborate closely with production accounting and finance teams to ensure seamless information flow and accurate tracking of volumes, qualities, and revenues related to marketing activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal trading, credit, and risk management policies for all transactions.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with all internal stakeholders, including metal recycling facilities.
- Stay informed on global market developments and respond proactively to international economic and political changes, forecasting market trends.
- Coordinate with the Metals Recycling team to establish trade requirements for executing strategic initiatives.
- Engage in trading activities during index windows to secure product spreads and optimize facility profit margins.
- Address supplier issues promptly and respectfully, ensuring fair resolutions that foster future business relationships.
- Negotiate freight terms with shipping providers.
- Conduct regular visits to current and potential suppliers to inspect materials and uphold quality standards.
- Work closely with the sales team to ensure competitive and current pricing for suppliers.
- Negotiate agreements that maximize trading volume while preserving desired profit margins.
- Support upper management in formulating a comprehensive purchasing strategy.
