Job Overview

The Metals Trading Specialist will oversee the execution and assessment of trades within the Commercial Metals Trading Division. This role involves a thorough analysis of the metals commodity market, both internationally and domestically, focusing on demand, inventory levels, and profit margins. The Specialist will evaluate opportunities for both physical and financial trading as well as asset enhancement, ensuring a comprehensive approach to market engagement.

Key Responsibilities

The duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Oversee and manage all relevant buy/sell agreements and their corresponding shipment volumes.
  2. Establish and nurture relationships with new clients while maintaining existing partnerships to identify high-value opportunities.
  3. Contribute to the development of long-term strategies aimed at expanding market presence and acquiring assets to enhance business sustainability.
  4. Collaborate closely with production accounting and finance teams to facilitate seamless information flow and accurate tracking of volumes, quality, and revenue related to marketing efforts.
  5. Ensure compliance with internal trading, credit, and risk management policies for all transactions.
  6. Build and maintain positive relationships with all internal stakeholders, including metal recycling facilities.
  7. Stay informed about global market trends and respond proactively to international economic and political changes, forecasting market trajectories.
  8. Coordinate with the Metals Recycling team to ascertain trade requirements for executing strategic initiatives.
  9. Engage in trading activities during index windows to secure product spreads and optimize facility profit margins.
  10. Address supplier concerns promptly and respectfully, ensuring fairness and fostering future business relationships.
  11. Negotiate freight terms with shipping companies.
  12. Conduct regular visits to current and potential suppliers to inspect materials and uphold quality standards.
  13. Work in tandem with the sales team to ensure competitive and up-to-date pricing for suppliers.
  14. Negotiate contracts that maximize trading volume while preserving desired profit margins.
  15. Assist senior management in formulating a comprehensive purchasing strategy.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity trading or business development.
  2. A strong background in the metals recycling sector.
  3. A degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Programming, or Finance/Commerce.
  4. High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), with advanced programming skills considered advantageous.
  5. A solid understanding of the product lifecycle, logistical processes, associated risks, and best practices for effective trade execution.
  6. Attention to detail with the capability to conduct research and comprehend economic factors.
  7. Exceptional relationship-building skills with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulators, vendors, and contractors.
  8. A proven track record of accountability for individual projects, demonstrating practical problem-solving abilities and sound judgment.
  9. A proactive, self-driven, and enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment while sharing knowledge and experiences with colleagues.
