We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Assistant II to join our team at Parkland School Division. As an Education Assistant II, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, providing instructional and non-instructional assistance to teachers, and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide instructional support to students with diverse needs, including those with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities.
- Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment, as well as with classroom management and organization.
- Support students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and dressing.
- Assist with behavior management and crisis intervention, using de-escalation strategies and non-violent physical intervention techniques.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents, using clear and concise language.
- Maintain accurate records and reports, including progress notes, behavior charts, and medication data sheets.
- Participate in student team conferences and contribute to the development of Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
- Assist with supervising students during activities, including field trips, recess, and extracurricular events.
- Travel with students to job placements, community outings, and other activities, as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Teacher Assistant Certificate or Educational Assistant Certificate.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience working with children with challenging behaviors, strong technology skills, and ability to build strong relationships.
- Good oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and a good sense of humor.
- Ability to take direction and work independently, flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination.
- First Aid Certificate and knowledge of office equipment and computers.
