Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The successful candidate will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implementing special programs
  • Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other special needs
  • Assist with outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and pool duties as required
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with diverse needs
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software
  • Level 2 sign language skills
  • Experience working with deaf/blind students
  • Computer skills and ability to use educational software
