Your Role: As the Head of Internship Programs, you will spearhead a dynamic team in the development of policies aligned with the legislative and regulatory agenda.

Strategic Leadership: By establishing a strategic and coordinated framework for policy and legislative development, you will promote an overarching strategy for policy effectiveness within the health system.

Advisory Expertise: Utilizing your robust research and analytical capabilities, you will provide informed advice on health system policies and foster a strong, collaborative team environment at all levels.

Alignment with Government Priorities: In your capacity as the Head, you will ensure that the department's legislative and regulatory initiatives, along with the review processes leading to high-quality submissions, are in harmony with governmental strategic priorities and objectives.

Team Support: Your team will assist all divisions of the Department of Health and Wellness, the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment, and the Office of Addictions and Mental Health, while overseeing the department's regulation of health professions in Nova Scotia.

Consultation and Development: Lead the consultation and development processes, providing guidance for the formulation, implementation, and assessment of departmental policies and significant projects.

Policy Coordination: Create a strategic and unified approach to policy and legislation to facilitate the development of comprehensive health system policies.

Legislative Oversight: Provide leadership and direction for the development, review, monitoring, and evaluation of health system legislation, regulations, and other policies.

Executive Council Submissions: Oversee the development of departmental submissions to Executive Council by collaborating with project teams throughout the department to identify issues requiring Cabinet decisions, initiating processes, advising senior staff in central agencies and other departments, conducting necessary briefings, and securing required approvals.

Internal Processes Management: Supervise internal processes related to drafting, reviewing, and approving briefing notes, submissions to Executive Council, and associated documents, while managing related record-keeping processes.

Ministerial Advisory: Advise the Minister during the legislative process by leading or participating in briefings to Executive Council, Government Caucus, and/or legislative committees.

Departmental Engagement: Foster a coordinated departmental approach to engage in various health policy and legislative matters.

Resource Management: Ensure effective management of human and financial resources by establishing and evaluating staff performance targets, promoting diversity, teamwork, and individual development.

Oversight of Regulated Professions: Support the Minister's oversight of regulated health professions in the Province and lead the implementation of the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Public Administration, Health Administration, etc.) with several years of progressive experience in areas such as policy development, strategic orientation, program evaluation, and stakeholder management.

Key Competencies: As a successful Head of Internship Programs, you will:

  • Possess a profound understanding of health system policy with experience in data collection, synthesis, and interpretation aimed at delivering sound analysis and advice.
  • Have a clear grasp of government legislative and policy processes.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing government submissions, budgets, and external reporting requirements.
