About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team at The Government of Nova Scotia. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure custody, control, and supervision of individuals in our adult correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide dynamic supervision and ensure the safety and security of individuals in custody
  • Conduct regular counts and searches, write reports, and ensure the security and safety of individuals in custody
  • Supervise facility cleaning, supervise individuals in custody on outside work details, and submit maintenance work orders as required
  • Advise individuals in custody of available programs and refer them to the posted program schedule
  • Record and communicate information through reports, forms, logbooks, email, and JEIN documentation
Requirements:
  • High School diploma and 2 years of related experience
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered
  • Typical equivalencies include a certificate/diploma from an accredited Correctional Officer program or a University degree in a related field of study
Assets:
  • Experience in law enforcement, security, or the military
  • Previous employment as a Correctional Officer
  • Knowledge or experience in a computerized/automated environment
  • Leadership experience (i.e. leading youth programs, groups, or committees)
