Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Vice President of Business Development to join our client, a Toronto-based private equity firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying private equity investment opportunities for new platform investments and add-on acquisitions for their portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and Execute a Business Development Plan: Utilize and update the existing database and CRM system to build a pipeline of opportunities.
  2. Establish and Build a Strong Network: Develop relationships with advisors focused on the private equity sector, primarily in Canada and the US.
  3. Attend Industry Conferences: Identify investment target companies through attendance at private equity and industry-related conferences.
  4. Subject Matter Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of trends and opportunities in the small to mid-cap private equity market across Canada.
  5. Investment Team Member: Work closely with senior-level investment team members and portfolio executive teams.
  6. Client Relationships: Develop a positive, knowledgeable, and trusted relationship with clients and advisors.
  7. Community Presence: Establish a visible presence in the Canadian private equity community.
  8. Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrate high emotional intelligence in building relationships and representing the firm in the market.

Requirements

  1. Education: Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in commerce or business, with a CPA or MBA as an asset.
  2. Experience: 5-10 years of experience in mid-market diversified investment banking, financial sponsors leverage finance, or strategic consulting.
  3. Skills: Strong knowledge of the private equity world, high emotional intelligence, and maturity.
  4. Personal Qualities: Highly organized, willing to hustle, business development-minded, and comfortable in an entrepreneurial young firm.
  5. Professional Presentation: Exceptional professional presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and familiar with the Canadian business community.
