About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Manager, Accident Benefits Technical Services to join our team. As a key member of our Claims Operation, you will provide technical expertise and lead a diverse team of Technical Consultants.

This role has a significant impact on the Claims operation, with oversight of the largest dollar impact on Accident Benefit claims. You will influence efficiency, compliance, and best practices, motivating staff to achieve company and team objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of consultants responsible for providing direction and oversight of reserve activity and payments on large or complex claims files.
  • Liaise with other claims experts on technical and claims issues.
  • Act in a consultative and advisory capacity on claims matters, including coverage, policy interpretation, and settlement negotiation.
  • Support remediation and knowledge transfer on best practices, processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effectively manage loss costs and expenses through critical evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Provide corporate governance over claims adjudication practices, ensuring technical services and operational teams manage claims in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Maintain a respectful and productive business relationship with vendors, service providers, legal firms, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and lead projects with Shared Services and the Claims Operation.
  • Monitor key performance indicators on a monthly basis to identify trends and develop strategies and action plans in consultation with the claims operations.
Requirements
  • University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role.
  • Pursuing your Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset.
  • 8 to 10 years of technical claims knowledge within Accident Benefits.
  • 3 to 5 years of management experience.
  • Experience identifying, managing, and collaborating on projects.
  • Experience identifying, reporting, and presenting on Accident Benefit Claims trends.
  • Superior facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and influencing skills.
  • Exceptional understanding of Legislation and Compliance.
