POSITION SUMMARY:

The Autism Consultant plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. This position is focused on providing comprehensive support and guidance to those affected by ASD, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and assistance to thrive in their communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver expert consultation services to individuals, families, and community organizations regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions aimed at educating families and community members about effective support strategies for individuals with ASD.
  • Engage in direct support activities, including one-on-one teaching sessions and group workshops, tailored to the unique needs of individuals with ASD.
  • Collaborate with various community agencies to foster a supportive environment for individuals with ASD and their families.
  • Assist in the development of family support initiatives, including support groups and social activities for children and adults.
  • Provide community capacity building through the creation and delivery of educational programs that promote understanding and effective support for individuals with ASD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Human or Social Services or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or developmental disabilities in a community setting.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and support systems available for individuals with ASD.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with families and community partners.
  • Familiarity with support strategies beneficial for individuals with ASD, including behavioral approaches and communication aids.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to physically assist children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder as needed.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
