MANAGER OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
1.0 FTE
- Temporary position (As soon as possible to approx. January 2025)
Salary Range: $109,467 per year
The Simcoe
County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position
of Assistant Manager of Mental Health Services. This position will provide
leadership within the mental health and well-being department in the areas of
system and service specific mental health promotion, prevention, and
intervention. As a member of the mental
health and well-being management team, reporting to the Mental Health Lead, the
Assistant Manager’s primary responsibilities include:
Supervising the day-to-day responsibilities of child
and youth work staff, providing
staff mentorship, coaching and consultation. This role may assist in the
supervision of the attendance counsellor rand social worker roles;
Providing leadership
to staff in building system and classroom capacity in mental health literacy
and school-based programming rooted in trauma informed and responsive practices,
self-regulation and social emotional skill building that improve student
outcomes related to mental health, well-being and academics;
Development and
delivery of training related to team and department professional development
goals;
Coordination,
consultation and debrief of Violent Threat Risk Assessment responses with
system administration and response teams;
Supervision,
consultation and debrief to the Traumatic Incident Response Coordinator and
response teams;
Review
consistency with school board strategic priorities, mental health and addiction
strategy, and assessment of fit of mental health awareness and promotion
initiatives;
Engage in
cross departmental collaboration to plan for everyday mental health and
well-being staff practices as they intersect with special education, diversity,
equity and inclusion, Indigenous education and student achievement;
Ensure
compliance with relevant professional practice standards, records management,
and other mandatory requirements (Human Resources, OCSWSSW, legislation
(Education Act, PHIPA etc.);
Support the
development of operational best practices and procedures;
Coordinate
student post-secondary education placements within the mental health and
well-being department, supporting a community of practice for placement
supervisors;
Operationalize
the mental health and addiction strategy and mental health and well-being
strategic priorities;
Other duties
as assigned.
The Mental
Health Lead and Assistant Manager partnership requires trust and collaboration,
while inspiring and motivating others, ensuring a culture of belonging. The
working both as a team member and independently in a fast-paced and
respectful working culture and will promote trust, accountability, and
transparency in accordance with the school board’s strategic priorities.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Completion of a Master of Social Work degree;
A registered member, in good standing, with the
Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) (those
eligible for registration may be considered);
A minimum of five (5) years of social work
experience working in the area of children and youth mental health promotion,
prevention, intervention, crisis and system navigation including two (2) years
in a supervisory capacity. Experience in
an educational environment is preferred;
Knowledge of effective and
sustainable practices in school mental health;
Knowledge in developmental
trauma and trauma informed and responsive education practices, Self-Reg ®;
Expertise in BRISC, Brief
Digital Interventions, Single Session Therapy, Motivational Interviewing,
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy;
Training in Violent Threat
Risk Assessment (VTRA) and Traumatic Incident Response;
Proven capability in providing (clinical) supervision and coaching
to staff that supports mental health promotion, prevention and interventions,
and staff navigating matters related to service
and good outcomes for students.
Proven capability to build relationships and effectively manage through
collaboration, engagement, transference of knowledge and project and change
management;
Demonstrated knowledge of service
delivery approaches rooted in intersectionality, anti-racist and
anti-oppressive practice that nurture safe(r) spaces, cultural humility, and
inclusivity;
Excellent analytical, problem-solving,
organizational and creativity skills. Effective communication, interpersonal
and presentation skills;
Practice knowledge of relevant legislation,
regulatory requirements and governing acts related to privacy, confidentiality,
professional best practice, mental health and education;
Previous experience in a unionized environment is
preferred;
possess a valid driver’s license
