Job Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse in the Same Day Surgery Unit and Outpatient Surgery at Hamilton Health Sciences participates in providing peri-operative care for adult patients. This role requires a Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse and current certifications in asepsis, wound care, airway management, and medication administration.

Responsibilities
  • Provide peri-operative care to adult patients in accordance with the job description and competencies for registered practical nurses.
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team to provide care to a diverse adult patient population.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment and demonstrate ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and maintain strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Requirements
  • Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current certifications in asepsis, wound care, airway management, and medication administration.
  • Recent experience (2 years) in adult surgical skills.
  • Completion of a nursing physical assessment course with certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment.
  • Evidence of commitment to professional practice.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and decision making in assessment and problem identification.
