Objective

Your role is vital to the success of ScotiaMcLeod in Canada, ensuring that specific individual targets, plans, and initiatives are effectively executed in alignment with the team's business strategies and objectives.

It is essential that all activities are conducted in accordance with governing regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.

The primary responsibility of the Senior Wealth Planning Associate is to deliver financial planning assistance to a dedicated Wealth Advisor team, facilitating the preparation and presentation of personalized financial plans for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a customer-centric culture to enhance client relationships and utilize broader Bank resources, systems, and expertise.
  • Actively support the financial planning requirements of the Advisor's assigned clients, which includes thorough client discovery to identify goals and objectives, preparing and presenting the financial plan, and collaborating with the Advisor to implement the recommended strategies.
  • Proactively assist advisors with financial planning by:
    • Entering client information from submitted documents into financial planning software;
    • Creating a financial plan that addresses clients' immediate and long-term goals;
    • Offering alternative scenarios or solutions when clients face challenges in achieving their goals;
    • Identifying and communicating referral opportunities to advisors;
    • Tracking and managing follow-up action items to ensure timely resolution.
  • Foster an integrated and organized approach to planning by collaborating with internal specialists (Taxation, Insurance, Estate & Trust, Philanthropy). Advocate for advisors to utilize the appropriate planning resources for each client and assist in directing clients to the suitable channels.
  • Contribute to the ongoing professional practice by participating in monthly Total Wealth Planning calls, collaborating with local Senior Total Wealth Planners and Total Wealth Planning Associates to ensure a consistent product and process is delivered to clients.
  • Provide general support to the Wealth Advisor and team by sharing updates on financial planning trends and strategic recommendations that may benefit clients.
  • Ensure that all financial plans are accurate and comply with the Financial Planning Defaults & Standards as guided by FP Canada; recommend reasonable client-focused strategies while staying informed about the latest legislative and financial industry policies.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest legislative and financial industry changes that may impact financial planning techniques.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and culture should influence daily activities and decision-making.
  • Strive for effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring the adequacy and effectiveness of daily business controls to meet obligations regarding operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
  • Promote a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive workplace.

Scope

  • ScotiaMcLeod operates under the regulations of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO).
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders across Canadian Wealth Management business lines and a team of experts.
  • Provide support to the Advisor team and associated ScotiaMcLeod clients.
  • This is a client-facing position involving Ultra/High Net Worth clients and prospects.
  • A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is required.

Qualifications

  • Designation, Licensing: CFP or IQFP (QC only).
  • Comprehensive understanding of the financial planning process, including investments, asset protection, retirement, estate planning, and tax considerations.
  • College or University degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial planning software; capable of modeling complex strategies and adapting to new changes and regulations.
  • Experience in Total Wealth Planning engagement from client discovery through plan preparation to presentation delivery.
  • Experience in a client-facing role with opportunities to provide financial advice.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Canadian Securities Course and/or Life Insurance License is an asset.
