Position Overview

The Government of Alberta is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Director of Legislative Services. This position is integral to the Ministry of Health, focusing on the strategic oversight of legislative initiatives and project management.

Key Responsibilities

The Director will report directly to the Executive Director of the Strategic Policy & Initiatives Branch. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the legislative planning and development processes.
  • Providing comprehensive project management support to the Minister and the Department of Health.
  • Ensuring the preparation of essential legal documents, including bills, regulations, and Ministerial Orders.
  • Offering expert advice on complex legislative matters, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communications.

Essential Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Systems Thinking: Understanding the legal and political frameworks influencing legislative actions.
  2. Creative Problem Solving: Transforming policy objectives into actionable legislation.
  3. Agility: Evaluating options and addressing uncertainties with innovative solutions.

Qualifications

A university degree in a relevant field such as Public Administration, Law, or Political Science, along with a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in legislative services or related areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in drafting legislative language and providing strategic advice.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
