Key Responsibilities

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled Legislative Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our Legislative Counsel Office, you will be responsible for drafting high-quality government bills and regulations, providing advice to government ministries, and mentoring junior legislative drafters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting complex government bills and regulations in accordance with Legislative Counsel Office standards
  • Providing legal and legislative advice to government ministries
  • Mentoring junior legislative drafters to assist in achieving government policy objectives
  • Contributing to the development of legislative policies and procedures
  • Collaborating with government ministries to ensure effective implementation of legislation

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • At least 10 years of experience in legislative drafting, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
