Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to become part of the Health Promotion and Education team at Bella Coola General Hospital, located in Bella Coola, BC. In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive range of public health, preventive, and health promotion services aimed at enhancing the overall health, well-being, and safety of clients. This involves identifying and prioritizing wellness needs, as well as developing and sustaining community partnerships to facilitate health promotion, advocacy, counseling, education, assessment, referral, and intervention across various community-based settings in a rural and remote environment.
ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC
Bella Coola is nestled in a picturesque mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, approximately 500 km north of Vancouver, with a community population of around 1800 residents. The area is renowned for its stunning fjord landscapes. Bella Coola General Hospital features 10 acute care beds, 5 long-term care beds, and a 3-bed emergency department that operates 24/7, alongside laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, and Home & Community Support Services. The facility also houses a medical clinic and a pharmacy.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Training in public health nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A valid BC Driver's License is required, as local travel necessitates the use of a personal vehicle, with mileage reimbursement available.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge and application of public health nursing principles, with a focus on primary health care and population health.
- Thorough understanding of the BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
- Extensive knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices related to childhood and adolescence.
- Proven ability to provide counseling to clients and their families.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Familiarity with immunization protocols.
- Proficient computer skills, including effective use of computerized client care information systems.
- Ability to critically analyze and utilize current health research in evidence-based practice.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, making sound nursing decisions.
- Physical capability to perform the responsibilities of the position.
Travel and expense policies will be applicable for reimbursement. Work hours, including days off and work areas, may be subject to change based on operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Agreement and relevant statutes.
