Job Overview

Flex-N-Gate is a prominent manufacturer and supplier of components for the automotive sector, recognized for its commitment to quality and innovation. We are currently seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a Controls Technician.

Position Scope

The Controls Technician plays a crucial role in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and enhancement of automated industrial machinery. This position ensures operational efficiency by monitoring and maintaining equipment, with a focus on rapid response to any arising issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and oversee the implementation of new processes.
  • Install upgrades to existing systems and resolve hardware, software, and instrumentation challenges.
  • Support start-up activities and maintain automation processes.
  • Oversee testing procedures, document findings, and ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations.
  • Be available for support calls around the clock.
  • Install, diagnose, and repair programmable logic controllers and other devices used in automated systems.
  • Engage in PLC, robot, and HMI programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production and support equipment.
  • Repair equipment as necessary and assist in maintaining all programming software and hardware.
  • Enhance equipment reliability and uptime concerning automation and controls.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to automation and robotics.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Physical capability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • Overtime may be necessary.
  • Work in an industrial environment where personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
  • Support operations across three shifts (days, afternoons, midnights).
Qualifications
  • Completion of a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology (Robot and Automation Program) or a 2-year technical certificate.
  • Experience in manufacturing with a strong technical background in programming, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics (Nachi, ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, and Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron).
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
