Position Summary
The Automation Controls Specialist is tasked with the installation, calibration, maintenance, and enhancement of automated industrial machinery. This role is crucial in ensuring the seamless operation of machinery through regular checks and maintenance. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to swiftly address any issues that may arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and oversee the implementation of new processes.
- Install upgrades to existing systems and resolve hardware, software, and instrumentation issues.
- Assist with start-up activities.
- Develop and maintain automation processes.
- Supervise testing procedures, document findings, and ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations.
- Be available for support calls around the clock.
- Install, diagnose, and repair programmable logic controllers and other devices that manage automated equipment.
- Engage in PLC, robotic, and HMI programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Perform preventative maintenance on production and support equipment.
- Repair equipment as necessary.
- Support the maintenance of all programming software, application files, and programming hardware.
- Enhance equipment reliability and uptime concerning automation and controls.
- Implement Continuous Improvement initiatives related to automation and robotics as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required.
Working Conditions
The working environment includes the following:
- Physical capability to lift up to 60lbs.
- Manual dexterity is essential.
- Overtime may be required.
- Industrial setting where personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
- Support for a three-shift operation.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Graduation from an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology program (focused on Robotics and Automation).
- Experience in manufacturing with a strong technical background in programming, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment.
- Familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics (Nachi, ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, and Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron).
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
