A Senior Disaster Response Crew Chief is a pivotal figure, possessing extensive experience in managing various disaster scenarios in both residential and commercial environments. They have comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary to navigate all types of emergencies. This role is essential for ensuring that all team members are effectively coordinated and equipped with the requisite skills and resources to address any challenges that may arise. Furthermore, they serve as the primary communication link between their team and clients, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in all interactions.

Summary
A Senior Disaster Response Crew Chief operates under the general supervision of the Mitigation Manager. They are tasked with leading their direct crew and exemplifying the highest standards for the department, influencing other Crew Chiefs and their teams. They possess the capability, confidence, and expertise to oversee multiple crews during emergency service operations, ensuring adherence to the established protocols. The Crew Chief is responsible for setting the benchmark for the department and carries out the following essential responsibilities (illustrative, not exhaustive):

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Upholds the principles of honesty and integrity in alignment with company values.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact and first responder for every assigned emergency incident.
  • Maintains a leadership presence within the department, guiding Crew Chiefs, Technicians, and General Labourers.
  • Leads all projects with a focus on quality workmanship, adherence to Health & Safety policies, and Brand Awareness.
  • Conducts training sessions for crew members on customer service, company policies, best practices, and identifies further training opportunities.
General Responsibilities
  • Defines and implements the scope of work to be completed.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and actively engages in all emergency tasks assigned to their crew.
  • Serves as the lead communicator with management and clients.
  • Available for on-call duties, both on a rotational basis and as needed during extraordinary circumstances.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
  • Ensures the maintenance of a clean and safe vehicle, promoting these standards across the mitigation fleet.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Can work with a variety of approved chemicals without adverse reactions.
  • Adheres to established safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
Qualifications
A Senior Disaster Response Crew Chief must hold at least three of the following IICRC Certifications:
  • Water Restoration
  • Applied Structural Drying
  • Fire & Smoke Restoration
  • Asbestos Worker
  • Asbestos Supervisor
  • Applied Microbial Restoration Technician
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with practices and procedures related to water, fire, and mold remediation.
  • Understanding of cleaning agents, solutions, and solvent usage.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently and collaboratively with management.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and preventative techniques.
  • Proficient in the use and upkeep of hand, power, and truck-mounted tools.
  • Ability to develop, learn, and effectively apply operational procedures.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate written and oral instructions.
  • Capability to meet established deadlines.
  • Able to safely lift and relocate heavy objects.
  • Judgment to act independently or refer situations to management as appropriate.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours.
  • Collaborative skills to work effectively with employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to identify and report hazards while applying safe work methods.
Possession of a valid Ontario G class Driver's License and a clean driving record is required at the time of hiring and must be maintained throughout employment. A police check will be conducted prior to the commencement of employment.
