A Crew Chief operates under the general supervision of the Mitigation Manager. They are responsible for leading their assigned crew and setting a high standard for the department, as well as for other Crew Chiefs and their teams. They possess the ability, confidence, and expertise to lead multiple crews during emergency service operations, ensuring adherence to the Paul Davis Way. The Crew Chief establishes the highest standards for the department and has the following essential responsibilities and tasks (illustrative, not exhaustive):
Supervisory Exemplifies the Paul Davis principles of honesty and integrity. Acts as the primary contact and first responder for every assigned emergency loss across both residential and commercial claims. Maintains a leadership role within the department, collaborating with all Crew Chiefs, Technicians, and General Labourers. Serves as a leader on all projects concerning quality workmanship, Health & Safety policies and procedures, and Brand Awareness. Conducts training sessions for crew members on customer service, policies & procedures, best practices, and recommends further training opportunities. General Tasks Defines and implements the scope of work to be completed. Coordinates, supervises, and actively participates in all emergency operations assigned to their crew. Oversees equipment maintenance and supplies (including maintaining MSDS sheets on assigned vehicles). Acts as the primary communicator with management and clients. Available for on-call duties, both on a rotation and as needed due to extraordinary circumstances. Capable of climbing ladders and working in confined spaces. Completes daily vehicle inspections and promotes adherence to standards across the mitigation fleet. Ensures that vehicles are kept clean and safe, promoting and supervising these standards across the mitigation fleet. Able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds. Capable of working with a variety of approved chemicals without adverse reactions or sensitivities. Adheres to established safety practices, including the proper use of PPE when necessary. Facilitates meetings regarding safety, chemicals, equipment, and other beneficial topics for the crews and department. A Crew Chief must hold or be pursuing any of the following IICRC or Industry Specific Certifications: Water Restoration Applied Structural Drying Fire & Smoke Asbestos Worker Asbestos Supervisor Applied Microbial Restoration Technician Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with practices and procedures in water, fire, and mold trades. Understanding of cleaning chemicals, solutions, and solvents. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve independently and collaboratively with management. Ability to stay updated on techniques and preventative maintenance of equipment. Proficient in using and maintaining hand, power, and truck-mounted tools. Capacity to develop, learn, and apply operating and work procedures effectively. Strong planning and organizational skills. Must hold Crew Chiefs and crew accountable when standards are not met through coaching and training. Ability to read and interpret written and/or oral instructions. Ability to communicate oral and/or written instructions clearly. Ability to meet established deadlines. Ability to safely move and relocate heavy objects. Ability to exercise judgment in determining when to act independently and when to refer situations to management. Flexibility to work varying hours or shifts. Ability to coach, mentor, and train Crew Chiefs to enhance their skills and industry knowledge. Ability to collaborate effectively with employees, contractors/vendors, outside agencies, and the public. Ability to identify and report hazards and apply safe work methods. Possession of a valid Ontario G class Driver's License and a clean driving record is required at the time of hiring and must be maintained throughout employment. A police check will be conducted prior to the commencement of employment and must be maintained while employed.
