Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to join our team at BC Cancer. As a Medical Secretary, you will provide administrative support to our clinical team, ensuring the smooth operation of our oncology clinic.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and staff, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Coordinate appointments, tests, and procedures, communicating with patients, families, and healthcare providers as needed.
- Prepare and distribute meeting materials, take minutes, and maintain records of meetings and discussions.
- Assist with the preparation of reports, documents, and presentations, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Grade 12, graduation from a recognized secretarial program, including a recognized course in medical transcription, and three years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to keyboard at 50 wpm.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
