Shop Manager - First Student Canada-Transco

First Student Canada-Transco is seeking a dedicated Shop Manager to oversee maintenance operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient performance of our maintenance team and the safe operation of our fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and schedule fleet maintenance, assisting in diagnosing equipment issues. Ensure timely communication regarding vehicle availability with dispatch and operational teams.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and performance management of shop staff, including conducting performance reviews and addressing employee concerns.
  • Collaborate with location management and regional maintenance teams to provide updates on maintenance status and budgetary needs. Review financial documents and repair orders as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Review and approve repair orders, manage fuel orders, and coordinate subcontracted repair work as needed.
  • Initiate and lead projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Ensure maintenance technicians are well-trained, equipped, and motivated to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Supervise bus fueling operations and coordinate building and grounds maintenance services.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, including hands-on maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Technical training or a Mechanic license is preferred.
  • Possess necessary licenses with endorsements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a mechanical environment.
  • Ability to lift weights ranging from 20 to 50 lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage and interpersonal interactions.
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is an asset.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily in a maintenance shop environment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and under vehicles, with exposure to dust, dirt, and grease.
