Job Title: Education Support Specialist

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #62 (Sooke). The successful candidate will provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behavior disorders, and learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, objectives, and supports.
  • Supervise students within the school, on the playground, and on field trips, including transitioning between activities.
  • Assist students during classroom activities and support social inclusion through implementing self-regulation strategies, behavior support strategies, communication strategies, and monitoring behavior.
  • Objectively observe and record student behavior, as required.
  • Report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
  • Support personal care needs of students, including glucagon testing, toileting, and feeding.
  • Attend to minor cuts or bruises and refer students to the first aid attendant as required.
  • Physically assist students using lifts and transfers, and support transferring students on and off buses.
  • Remain current in school, district, and provincial policies and guidelines relevant to the role.

Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans (an asset).
  • Ability to implement modified and adapted curriculum.
  • Basic computer skills, including reading and forming emails, viewing Word/Excel documents, navigating the internet, and using web-based applications.
  • Physical ability to respond to student needs.

  • Respects the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents, and staff.
