As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role within a multidisciplinary team aimed at providing integrated services and programs to our clients and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patient capabilities, care needs, priorities, risks, and available resources within the unit.
  • Develop patient care assignments, manage workloads, conduct evaluations, and implement changes in processes and policies while providing orientation and coaching.
  • Serve as a nursing expert and liaison for the team and other staff in delivering patient care.
  • Engage in patient care discussions, committee meetings, and collaborative teams to enhance patient care and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with healthcare team members, clients, and families to formulate personalized care plans.
  • Address patient status concerns, unsafe practices, and any unusual circumstances.
  • Identify and propose improvements for unit functionality.
  • Facilitate the effective discharge and transfer of patients in coordination with other healthcare professionals.
  • Encourage a team-oriented approach to client care and foster positive relationships and a supportive work environment.
  • Monitor and follow up on prescribed interventions, including diagnostics and consultations.
  • Assist staff in evaluating patient care objectives and adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Promote professional behavior and practice in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Guide nursing staff and provide constructive feedback to enhance best practices.
  • Participate in educational programs and workshops to enhance professional skills and meet personal development goals.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Education Team to plan and deliver ongoing learning and application of knowledge.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required; a Master's degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the relevant nursing regulatory body.
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in acute psychiatric or inpatient settings, or a combination of 15 years in acute psychiatric care and 5 years in emergency mental health.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in psychiatric and mental health nursing.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Mental Health Act and current clinical trends and best practices.
  • Experience with therapeutic modalities such as DBT, CBT, and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and organizations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team focused on quality improvement and client engagement.
  • Respect for diversity in all its forms, including economic and social status, race, culture, beliefs, and sexuality.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in response to emerging health issues and research.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and teaching others.
  • Understanding of behavioral change and developmental theories is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and various databases.
