QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should possess a two-year College Secretarial Diploma or equivalent qualifications. Proficiency in PC software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, along with strong organizational and clerical skills to assist educators and learners in the library environment. Familiarity with automated library systems is essential where applicable. Proficiency in the French language (both verbal and reading) is advantageous.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate closely with educational staff under the guidance of the principal to select literature and resource materials that fulfill the needs of the educational institution and enhance curricular programs. Develop and maintain vertical files for easy access to information. Demonstrate familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System and electronic cataloging systems. Ensure the filing system for educational resources is current as the collection evolves. Provide support and guidance to students, educators, and parents in utilizing research methods, including computer applications, CD ROMs, the Internet, and library searches. Process cataloged and classified materials, which may include affixing preprinted labels and pockets to books and shelving them appropriately. Organize and file cards in Shelf List Drawers for efficient resource management. Maintain the integrity of the collection through book repairs, shelf reading, and updating borrower’s cards and pockets, spine labels, and protective covers. Coordinate and advise volunteers, including parents and students, in tasks such as shelving and circulation. Assist with circulation responsibilities, including managing overdue books and maintaining accurate records. Participate in the annual inventory of library resources and equipment, as well as the evaluation of collections. Contribute to the visual appeal of the library through displays and bulletin boards. Support educators in organizing book fairs. Maintain a catalog of publishers' materials for reference. Request necessary office supplies and assist in preparing the annual bulk order list for library resources. Utilize automated library systems for information retrieval and resource circulation as needed. Provide guidance to library users regarding the rules and procedures for library usage. Accept and process donated materials for approval. Assist in the removal of outdated or inappropriate resources from the library collection. Perform additional clerical tasks as assigned by the principal.

HOURS OF WORK:

31 hours per week – between the hours of 7:30 to 5:00
