Overview of Your Future Role at BBA
At BBA, our Thunder Bay office is set to host diverse multidisciplinary teams that will support the project lifecycle across the Power, mining, and metals industries, collaborating with colleagues from various BBA locations. Our dedicated teams are committed to delivering exceptional services that align with client expectations, encompassing environmental, mining, geological, and process studies, as well as detailed engineering, project management, and start-up services.

In alignment with our strategic vision, you will be tasked with formulating a comprehensive plan that outlines the strategic and operational goals for the Thunder Bay office, ensuring its effective execution. As the director, you will have the unique opportunity to lead, inspire, and cultivate a multidisciplinary engineering team, with aspirations to expand to over 15 professionals in the near future. Additionally, you will oversee the development of the firm's operations and manage the human and financial resources of the Thunder Bay office, reporting directly to the regional executive.

Your Key Responsibilities
Specific Duties
  1. Facilitate the establishment of a new BBA office in Thunder Bay.
  2. Collaborate with the regional executive to refine and adapt the Thunder Bay business strategy to leverage your expertise while maintaining the overarching vision.
  3. Ensure the successful implementation of the business strategy.
  4. Attract, recruit, and nurture top talent that aligns with the strategic plan.
  5. Develop and maintain business relationships with local clientele.
General Duties
  1. Translate overarching strategies into actionable operational objectives and plans.
  2. Prepare annual budget forecasts for the office.
  3. Evaluate the achievement of objectives through key performance indicators.
  4. Mitigate operational risks by reviewing all projects with the operations team.
  5. Implement contractual strategies in accordance with the firm's strategic directives.
  6. Ensure compliance with the highest standards of occupational health and safety as per the firm's expectations.
  7. Foster the development of employee technical knowledge and skills.
  8. Achieve collaboration objectives with other offices, teams, and departments, both regionally and nationally.
  9. Ensure adherence to policies, operational processes, and engineering practices in line with BBA's quality standards.
  10. Work alongside discipline leads and department managers to communicate key operational parameters, provide coaching, and hold them accountable for their responsibilities.
  11. Provide leadership in project, technical, or business development approximately 30% of your working time.
  12. Oversee the procurement of goods and services and office space leases in collaboration with Corporate Services management.
  13. Act as an ambassador for the firm's values, promoting them and leading by example.
  14. Encourage innovation and seek creative solutions to enhance the organization's business practices.

Qualifications and Job Requirements
  1. University degree in engineering or a relevant program of study.
  2. A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a consulting engineering environment.
  3. Experience with profit and loss responsibilities.
  4. Knowledge of the mining and metals sector or the power sector.
  5. A robust network of contacts within the power and/or mining and metals industries.
  6. Extensive knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering.
  7. Experience in team engagement and management.
  8. Strong interpersonal and collaborative management skills.
  9. Interest and experience in business development.
  10. Experience in organizational development and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  11. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  12. Asset: Proficiency in French.
  13. Asset: Proficiency in Spanish.
