Position Overview

The College Life initiative is a research endeavor focused on understanding the evolving mandates of British Columbia's college system and the experiences of educators engaged in research while working at colleges dedicated to education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support for team meetings, including note-taking and organizing project documentation and timelines.
  • Assist in reviewing literature and relevant policies.
  • Contribute to the design of research studies and tools, such as interview guides.
  • Support the preparation of ethics applications.
  • Participate in data collection, analysis, and dissemination of knowledge.
Qualifications for Success

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • A background in Psychology, Criminology, or Sociology.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and experience in project management.
  • Familiarity with policy analysis, survey design, and qualitative interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of SPSS and NVivo is advantageous.
  • Completion of research methods courses in social sciences is preferred.
  • Understanding of research within the college and community sectors is beneficial.
Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must fulfill one of the following conditions to qualify for the Student Research Assistant role:

  1. Enrollment in a minimum of one (3 credit) course at Douglas College during the work term.
  2. Enrollment in a minimum of one (3 credit) course at Douglas College in the preceding term, with an intention to enroll in the following term.
  3. Enrollment in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in British Columbia during the work term.
  4. Enrollment in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the preceding term, with an intention to enroll in the following term.

International students must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Full-time enrollment at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  2. Enrollment as an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit allowing employment, provided proof of full-time enrollment is submitted.

Compliance with legal requirements, including providing an original Social Insurance Number (SIN) and Study Permit, is mandatory before commencing work.
