Job Overview

Senior Research Scientist I - Process Safety and Development

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee process safety operations at the site, ensuring compliance and best practices.
  • Deliver training and support to chemistry personnel regarding hazard evaluations in laboratory settings.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in process safety across various departments and levels.
  • Conduct process safety evaluations for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), including necessary documentation for batch records and specifications.
  • Enhance the process safety evaluation framework and procedures for the site, acting as a resource for corporate process safety matters.
  • Engage in the recruitment, selection, management, and development of staff, with a strong focus on mentorship and professional growth.

FOCUS AREAS

  • Conduct thorough process safety assessments and investigations related to drug substance manufacturing.
  • Utilize appropriate methodologies and techniques (e.g., DSC, ARC, RC1) to support process development and project objectives.
  • Analyze data and present findings from process hazard evaluations effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement of process safety systems at both site and corporate levels, prioritizing personnel and process safety.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate process safety objectives and guide personnel in understanding and adhering to safety requirements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current principles, theories, and regulatory guidelines, applying this knowledge to enhance personnel and systems.
  • Develop, implement, and advocate for site-specific process safety programs and systems, including assessment tools and training initiatives to foster a robust safety culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or a related scientific discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 8+ years of industry experience; or a Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry, particularly in process safety and development, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to apply sound scientific judgment for timely decision-making.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and writing skills are essential.
