Job Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician I reports directly to the Facilities Supervisor and is responsible for overseeing all aspects related to the operation, upkeep, troubleshooting, repair, reporting, and monitoring of facility systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates facility systems to ensure reliable environmental conditions and utilities for production, packaging, laboratory, warehouse, and office environments.
  • Conducts inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and enhancements of all facility systems within the plant to guarantee reliability and optimal performance.
  • Completes all preventative maintenance work orders promptly and analyzes data to compile trending reports, making recommendations for continuous improvements to minimize production downtime and prevent recurring issues.
  • Prepares documentation for quality systems when deviations occur and implements necessary changes to validated systems.
  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders regarding work activities and issues impacting other areas, particularly production.
  • Obtains estimates and quotes from vendors, coordinating and supervising the execution of contracted services.
  • Participates in Maintenance Shutdown activities, working independently or collaboratively on maintenance tasks.
  • Proactively plans and anticipates potential problems, notifying responsible parties to mitigate impacts on production schedules.
  • Prepares reports and updates for management and stakeholders, contributing to cost-saving initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption.
  • Responds to Building Automation System (BAS) and Facility Management System (FMS) alarms and remote notifications, executing necessary corrective actions.
  • Develops, evaluates, and maintains documentation for facility systems to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety standards, and company objectives.
  • Oversees contractors performing services within the plant, supporting capital projects related to facility systems.
  • Orders parts, filters, and consumables while adhering to the operating budget.
  • Assists the validation team with projects related to facilities equipment.
  • Provides technical guidance to facilities and maintenance staff, as well as external contractors, to clarify job requirements and assist in planning for future expansions and capital projects.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance as needed.
  • Adheres to all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Embodies the Company's Mission, Vision, and Values, along with current business practices.
  • Complies with GMP and regulatory requirements, ensuring quality standards are consistently met.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Trade certification from a recognized institution.
  • TSSA certified 4th Class Stationary Engineer or Refrigeration 'B' Operator.
  • A licensed millwright or refrigeration mechanic is considered an asset.
