The Role:As a key member of the management team, you will report directly to the Plant Manager and play a crucial role in overseeing plant operations to ensure the production of top-quality products in an efficient and effective manner, adhering to company policies and regulatory standards. Your responsibilities will encompass managing efficiency, yield, safety, absenteeism, and quality initiatives as they relate to plant operations. You will set a strong example for your team, motivating them to achieve outstanding results. Your commitment to safety will foster a culture where safety is prioritized. A Day in Your Life:
  • Lead and supervise production personnel, including senior supervisors and multiple production supervisors.
  • Promote a positive labor relations atmosphere by ensuring respectful treatment of all employees, timely resolution of grievances, and open communication.
  • Encourage staff to adopt and embody the Leadership Edge Values.
  • Oversee production costs, labor efficiency, yield, operational results, and cost-saving initiatives within your area.
  • Track production inputs and outputs to minimize waste and strive for an accident-free workplace.
  • Communicate updates regarding Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and HACCP to maintain consistent product quality and advance food safety initiatives.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing processes, utilizing Six Sigma methodologies, and spearheading specific projects aimed at optimizing production.
  • Engage regularly with various department managers and team members, including Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, Maintenance, Finance, Six Sigma, R&D, Distribution, and Human Resources, using daily reports to monitor manufacturing performance.
  • Manage departmental operating expenses to ensure timely production of all orders without compromising quality or quantity.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in developing a cohesive and skilled management team, planning for effective succession by recruiting, developing, and motivating manufacturing staff.
  • Participate in evaluating and recommending capital improvements for equipment and plant facilities.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and standard costs for raw materials, direct labor, and overheads.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education is preferred, ideally a University degree in Engineering, Food Science, or Business.
  • A minimum of 7 years of management experience in a unionized manufacturing setting.
  • Proven ability to schedule employees and production shifts in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment.
  • Strong financial analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Results-driven with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in day-to-day operations.
  • Willingness to step in for Production Supervisors as needed.
  • Effective in engaging with all levels of a diverse workforce and Government Regulators.
