About the Role:As a key member of the management team, you will report directly to the Plant Manager and play a crucial role in overseeing plant operations to ensure the production of premium quality products in a manner that is both effective and efficient, adhering to corporate policies and regulatory standards. Daily Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership to production personnel, including direct oversight of senior and production supervisors.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture by ensuring respectful treatment of all employees, addressing grievances promptly, and maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Encourage staff to adopt and embody the Leadership Edge Values.
  • Oversee production costs, labor efficiency, yield metrics, operational outcomes, and cost-saving initiatives within your area of responsibility.
  • Track production inputs and outputs to minimize waste and strive for an accident-free workplace.
  • Communicate changes to Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and HACCP to ensure consistent product quality and an advanced food safety program.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing processes, utilizing Six Sigma methodologies to enhance production operations.
  • Engage regularly with various departments, including Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, Maintenance, Finance, Six Sigma, R&D, Distribution, and Human Resources, using daily manufacturing reports to monitor performance.
  • Manage departmental operating expenses, ensuring timely production of all orders without compromising quality or quantity.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in building a cohesive and skilled management team while planning for effective succession through the recruitment, development, and motivation of manufacturing staff.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and recommendations for capital investments in equipment and plant facilities.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and standard cost analyses for raw materials, direct labor, and overhead expenses.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred candidates will possess relevant post-secondary education, ideally a University degree in Engineering, Food Science, or Business.
  • A minimum of 7 years of management experience in a unionized manufacturing setting is required.
  • Proven ability to effectively schedule employees and manage production shifts in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment.
  • Strong financial analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software are essential.
  • Results-driven with the capability to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make sound judgments in daily business operations.
  • Willingness to step in for Production Supervisors as necessary.
  • Comfortable interacting with a diverse workforce and government regulators.
