Job Overview

The AECOM cultural resources division is actively seeking a Cultural Resource Specialist for a position focused on report generation and laboratory assistance within the cultural resources team. This role is pivotal in contributing to report development, data organization, and the processing and analysis of cultural materials. You will collaborate closely with AECOM's Project Managers and will be encouraged to enhance your professional skills as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts standard scientific tasks that necessitate the application of established techniques and methodologies.
  • Identifies issues arising from standardized procedures due to sample conditions or equipment challenges.
  • Participates in specific project phases under the guidance of senior scientists.
  • Recommends suitable analytical methods and techniques, providing advice and consulting services within the realm of scientific expertise.
  • Draws conclusions and formulates recommendations based on thorough analysis.
  • Interprets and documents data, performing analyses and comparing findings with relevant studies and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Operates under general supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Cultural Resources, Heritage, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of pertinent experience in either archaeological laboratory work involving artifact cataloging/processing or in archaeological report generation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Ontario MCM's Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
  • Proven ability to manage logistics for multiple field teams.
  • Experience in tracking field efforts, including the collection and management of field data.
  • Capability to oversee projects from proposal to report completion, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.
  • Basic understanding of the heritage planning process, including the identification of built heritage or cultural heritage landscapes.
  • Additional field experience in conducting archaeological excavations.
  • Possession of a valid Research or Professional class license issued by the Ontario MCM.
  • Strong research and writing abilities.
  • Commitment to promoting a robust health and safety culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Willingness to acquire necessary laboratory skills under management's guidance.
