Visual Communication Specialist

Position Overview:
The Department of Athletics and Recreation at McMaster University is in search of a part-time Visual Communication Specialist. This role involves reporting to the Communications & Media Specialist and/or the Sports Information Officer, with a focus on developing innovative content for various Athletics & Recreation initiatives. The selected individual will be tasked with crafting visually compelling digital designs aimed at promoting varsity sports teams and recreational programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Design engaging and visually striking graphics that align with the branding and messaging of the Department of Athletics & Recreation. Collaborate with the marketing and communications team, as well as other department leads, to produce materials for fitness classes, game-day promotions, ticket sales, signage, and other marketing efforts. Contribute to the creation of graphic content for both internal and external promotional campaigns. Organize and categorize digital assets through a departmental storage solution. Work together to maintain a comprehensive content calendar, ensuring timely production of digital elements that support the department's strategic objectives. Adhere to project timelines and manage workload efficiently with minimal oversight. Execute various graphic design projects across all units within the Department of Athletics & Recreation, including Aquatics, Camps, Climbing, Events, Intramural Sports, Marauder Varsity Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Pulse Fitness Centre, Strength & Conditioning, and Sport Medicine. Assist in preparing and submitting print-ready files to external vendors. Support sponsorship initiatives with a focus on digital graphic content for online and in-stadium use. Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in graphic design and visual communication. Help manage the department's social media presence across multiple platforms.Qualifications:
Minimum of 6 months of experience in photography, particularly in sports, physical activities, events, and portraiture. Proven expertise with professional photography tools, including DSLR/Mirrorless cameras, zoom lenses, studio lighting, and editing software. Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Lightroom. Familiarity with artificial lighting techniques. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders. A portfolio showcasing the ability to capture high-quality images in various scenarios, including fast-paced action in low-light conditions. Experience in sports photography at the high school, collegiate, or professional level. Willingness to work primarily during evenings and weekends.-
