Position Overview:
The Department of Athletics and Recreation at McMaster University is in search of a part-time visual communication specialist. Reporting to the Communications & Media Specialist and/or the Sports Information Officer, the selected individual will play a crucial role in crafting innovative content for the university's Athletics & Recreation initiatives. This role involves designing visually compelling digital graphics aimed at promoting varsity sports teams and recreational programs, while also assisting in the planning and execution of digital media content.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop visually striking and engaging graphics that align with the branding and messaging of the Department of Athletics & Recreation. Collaborate with the marketing and communications team along with other department leads to produce assets for various recreational programs, fitness classes, event promotions, ticket sales, signage, and other marketing strategies. Support the creation of graphic content for both internal and external promotional activities. Organize and categorize digital assets using a departmental cloud storage solution. Work together to maintain a comprehensive content calendar to ensure timely production of digital materials, in line with the department's strategic objectives. Adhere to project timelines and manage workload efficiently with minimal oversight. Execute specific graphic design projects across all sectors of the Department of Athletics & Recreation (including Aquatics, Camps, Climbing, Events, Intramural Sports, Marauder Varsity Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Pulse Fitness Centre, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Medicine). Assist in preparing and submitting print-ready files to external vendors. Contribute to sponsorship initiatives with a focus on digital graphic content for online and in-stadium use. Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in graphic design and visual communication. Aid in managing the department's social media presence across various platforms.Qualifications:
Minimum of 6 months of experience in photography, particularly in sports, physical activities, events, and portraiture. Proven expertise with professional photography equipment, including DSLR/Mirrorless cameras, zoom lenses, studio lighting, and editing software. Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Lightroom. Knowledge of artificial lighting techniques. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders. A portfolio showcasing the ability to capture high-quality photographs in various settings, including fast-paced action in low-light conditions. Experience in sports photography at high school, collegiate, or professional levels. Flexibility to work primarily during evenings and weekends.
