Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Interior Health Authority. This is a permanent position that requires a commitment to providing quality healthcare services.

Educational Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program lasting between 3 months to less than 1 year.

Work Environment

This role is set within hospital medical laboratories, providing a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other samples from patients.
  • Document observations on patient specimens accurately.
  • Examine and interpret test results.
  • Log patient samples and prepare them for testing procedures.
  • Set up and maintain medical laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests and analyses of samples.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the laboratory and its equipment.
  • Dispose of specimens following established safety protocols.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in MS Outlook and MS Word is required.

Specialization

Experience in venipuncture is preferred.

Safety and Security

A criminal record check is mandatory for this position.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination.
  • Capable of performing a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to manage repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to stand for extended periods and perform physical activities such as bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to distinguish between colors and possess excellent attention to detail.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
