National Communications Director
Our client, a prominent global business law firm, is seeking a National Communications Director to enhance their communications initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMO), the Director will spearhead the creation of a dynamic communications team dedicated to elevating the firm's brand among key stakeholders, including employees, the media, and the broader community.

The ideal candidate will thrive in developing a transformative multi-year communications strategy that aligns with the firm's core priorities: Culture, Revenue & Profitability, and Talent Development.

Key Responsibilities:


• Lead a team of six communications professionals, guiding their development and performance.

• Craft and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that authentically conveys the firm's narrative and highlights its unique attributes.

• Develop targeted messaging and communication channels to engage various internal and external stakeholders effectively.

• Collaborate with the People and Development team to foster an internal communications framework that inspires and informs employees throughout their journey with the firm.

• Provide strategic insights on reputational opportunities and challenges, ensuring the firm remains relevant in key market discussions.

• Oversee executive communications, including high-profile speaking engagements and media interactions.

• Build and nurture a high-performing national communications team, focusing on structure, talent development, and ongoing professional growth.

• Formulate a crisis communication strategy and management plan, ensuring readiness to address potential issues.

• Partner with Marketing to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms and practices.

• Develop a social media strategy that effectively promotes the firm's brand and engages current and prospective clients.

• Experiment with innovative communication techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the communications function.

• Establish metrics and reporting processes to measure the impact of communications initiatives regularly.

• Collaborate with global and regional contacts to maintain message consistency and share best practices.

• Align the communications strategy with the firm's overarching goals and priorities, ensuring a proactive approach.

• Assess and manage talent within the communications team, fostering engagement and feedback.

• Modernize the communications function by leveraging multimedia strategies for greater effectiveness.

• Position the communications team as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing strategic recommendations.

• Rebrand the communications function to emphasize its value in driving organizational results.

• Exercise discernment in selecting campaigns and initiatives that align with the firm's strategic objectives.

Qualifications:


• Over 15 years of relevant experience in executive and corporate communications, with a preference for leadership roles in professional services.

• Fluency in both English and French is essential.

• Proven strategic thinker with expertise in employee engagement, media relations, and crisis management.

• Strong business acumen, capable of advising senior leadership on complex communication matters.

• Exceptional writing and presentation skills, with a track record of successful communication strategies.

• Experience in managing issues and crises effectively.

• Ability to develop impactful communications strategies that engage employees and leverage top-tier media.

• Strong relationship-building skills and a forward-thinking mindset.

• A collaborative leader who is both ambitious and professional, capable of navigating complex organizational structures.
