Job Summary

The Director of Health and Safety is a critical role within Secure Energy, responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and initiatives. This position plays a pivotal part in ensuring the well-being and protection of employees, establishing a secure and compliant work environment, and promoting a culture of health and safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Strategy
  • Provide overall leadership, support, guidance, and direction of all health and safety strategies and programs.
  • Develop and implement health and safety priorities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Team Management
  • Provide support and leadership in building a strong and integrated health and safety functional team to support the growth of all Secure Energy operations.
Culture and Compliance
  • Champion a culture of health and safety excellence at all levels of the organization, emphasizing best practices and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation affecting company operations and promote excellence through policies, programs, and best practices.
Reporting and Analysis
  • Provide reporting, trending, and analysis on health and safety performance.
Communication and Engagement
  • Engage and communicate on health and safety topics, such as performance, issues, opportunities, strengths metrics, etc.
Incident Investigation and Training
  • Oversee investigation of incidents and near misses while ensuring proper follow-up and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Oversee training, maintenance, and support of core health and safety management systems and programs.
Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or other applicable professional designation.
  • 10+ years of experience in a Senior Health and Safety role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change required to improve health and safety performance and results.
  • Proficiency in conducting analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and safe work practices.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in training and coaching staff.
  • A broad understanding of the health and safety regulatory process and principles.
  • Strong incident investigation skills and emergency management expertise.
  • Ability to implement techniques that improve or encourage safe behaviors and actions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work well under pressure.
  • Strong ability to build working relationships and contacts within the organization and with external regulators, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong computer and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel to field locations as required.

The following would be an asset in this role:

  • CRSP/CSP or other applicable professional designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in process safety management is considered an asset.
