About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Lawyer to join our team at the Regina Rural Area Office. As a Staff Lawyer, you will be responsible for conducting assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct of Assigned Files: Conduct assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Preliminary Inquiries and Pre-Trials: Conduct preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews & appeals.
  • Negotiation of Competent Resolutions: Negotiate competent resolutions of files to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients.
  • Representation at Bail Hearings and Guilty Pleas: Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely.
  • Independent Case Work: Work independently on cases as assigned by the Legal Director.
  • Time Entry and Record Keeping: Complete and accurate time entry and record keeping.
Position Requirements
  • Experience in Criminal Law: Experience in criminal law.
  • Experience in Family Law: Experience in family law.
  • Law Degree: Law degree from a recognized law school.
  • Membership in Good Standing: Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid Driver's License – Class 5.
  • Technological Savviness: Technologically savvy with a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.
  • Commitment to Social Justice: Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities.
  • Time Management and Prioritization: Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Criminal Record Check: Successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.
