As a Crown Prosecutor, your role will be pivotal in ensuring justice is served through equitable and effective legal proceedings. The Public Prosecutions Office is responsible for prosecuting individuals charged under the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, along with various federal and provincial laws. Our mission is to foster safe communities by ensuring just resolutions to criminal charges, employing a range of strategies from rigorous trial prosecution to collaborating with justice partners and community organizations for alternative solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for and maintain membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan;
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check;
  • Exceptional oral communication and presentation abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent analytical capabilities;
  • Effective organizational and case management skills;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, working both independently and collaboratively;
  • Proficiency in legal research software and MS Office applications. Familiarity with CJIMS is an asset but not mandatory;
  • Experience in criminal law litigation is beneficial but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of a Regional Crown Prosecutor and the Public Prosecutions' Head Office, you will undertake a variety of responsibilities and make critical decisions. Your primary duties will involve managing criminal, quasi-criminal, and regulatory prosecutions in the Provincial Court and the Court of King's Bench for Saskatchewan. This includes attending docket court, conducting trials, and handling summary conviction appeals. Additional responsibilities encompass providing legal opinions, reviewing police documentation, and advising law enforcement as necessary. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in legal education related to criminal law and ethics.

Work hours may vary and can include evenings and weekends as required. Travel may be necessary, including potential overnight stays in various communities.

The salary offered will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will receive a minimum of three weeks of annual vacation, twelve scheduled days off, and recognized public holidays. A comprehensive benefits package will be available after six months of employment.
