Job Summary:

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is an integral member of the healthcare team at Lakeridge Health. As a PSW, you will work under the supervision of the Nurse, Unit Coordinator, and Manager to provide direct and indirect personal care to patients. Your responsibilities will focus on supporting the functions of all team members, offering diversion, de-escalation, and support to medically stable patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect personal care to patients, including activities of daily living
  • Support the functions of all team members, including nurses, unit coordinators, and managers
  • Offer diversion, de-escalation, and support to medically stable patients
  • Collaborate with other health disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Participate in regular in-service education to maintain knowledge of Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a 1-year Personal Support Worker program from an accredited Community College
  • Successful completion of a U-First/PIECES Certificate Program, an asset
  • Successful completion of Gentle Persuasion Program, an asset
  • Current Basic Life Support required
  • Proven critical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated related healthcare and inventory experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft computer programs, preferably Meditech
  • Physically able to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Ability to work with supervision by a regulated healthcare provider
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 12 months
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships in a patient-centered environment

  • Must have a satisfactory performance record

Conditions of Employment:

  • The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364
  • Successful external applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months
