Orchestral Programming Specialist

Creative Manitoba is seeking a passionate and experienced Orchestral Programming Specialist to join our team. This role will play a vital part in shaping the artistic direction of our renowned orchestra, ensuring the delivery of exceptional musical experiences for audiences across the province.
As an Orchestral Programming Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and executing a diverse range of orchestral programs, collaborating with conductors, guest artists, and internal teams to curate captivating performances. Your expertise in classical music and knowledge of the Canadian orchestral landscape will be instrumental in shaping our artistic vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate contracts with presenters for all contracted services, including renowned organizations such as the Manitoba Opera and Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
- Ensure the seamless execution of events within designated series, guaranteeing a high standard of production and audience satisfaction.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant collective agreements, licensing protocols, and media partnerships to ensure compliance and smooth operations.
- Manage media archival processes for all series, ensuring accurate and efficient record-keeping.
- Collaborate closely with the Manager, Education, Community, and Sistema to oversee the development and implementation of educational outreach programs. Identify and pursue new opportunities to expand our community engagement initiatives.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong background in classical music and proven experience in artistic programming.
- Advanced degree in a classical music discipline (e.g., performance, musicology, music education) with a preference in an orchestral instrument or field of study. Equivalent performance, artistic planning, or programming experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated passion and knowledge of orchestral music and artists, including a familiarity with prominent conductors and performers across various genres and styles.
- Familiarity with the Canadian orchestral environment is highly desirable.
- A proven track record of artistic planning that exemplifies creativity, innovation, and quality, preferably within an orchestra setting.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Exceptional interpersonal, personnel management, and negotiation skills are essential for success in this role.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with a proven ability to meet deadlines and thrive under pressure.
- The ability to effectively balance teamwork with independent work is crucial.
- Meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the capacity to solve problems and make sound decisions are essential.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required. Experience with field-specific databases such as Opas is an asset.
