Job Title: Community Support Counselor - Peer Specialist

Job Summary:

The Community Support Counselor - Peer Specialist will participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation support, skills teaching, and clinical management in clients' environments of choice for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide education, support, and consultation to families along with crisis intervention support.
  • Act as a role model, promoting hope and empowerment in clients' recovery and enhancing team engagement with clients.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and their families.
  • Provide support and guidance to clients in achieving their recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent human services experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of front-line care-taking experience in the community to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Significant lived personal experience with the mental health system.
  • Familiarity with mental health legislation and reform and consumer/survivor issues.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in consumer/provider perspectives in case management and sound knowledge of principles of psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Excellent assessment, crisis intervention, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team.

Working Conditions:

Rotating shifts Monday to Sunday; Days, Afternoons, Evenings, and Weekends.
