Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Medical Physics to lead our Medical Physics Department at the Walker Family Cancer Centre. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction to our team of medical physicists, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the implementation of new technologies and treatments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Medical Physics Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the implementation of new technologies and treatments.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of medical physicists, ensuring that all clinical and research activities are conducted in accordance with established protocols and standards.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve clinical processes and patient outcomes, including the implementation of new technologies and treatments.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of medical physics services into the overall cancer care program.
  • Provide oversight for quality assurance testing, commissioning, and calibration of equipment used in the Radiation Medicine Program.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate staff, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and competencies to perform their duties effectively.
  • Manage budgets and resources, ensuring that the department operates within established financial parameters.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in medical physics, including new technologies and treatments, and apply this knowledge to improve patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a related field.
  • Canadian College of Medical Physicists (CCMP) or American Board of Radiology (ABR) equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical medical physics experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing staff in a multi-unionized environment.
  • Experience in change management, project management, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in scientific/technical writing.
  • Knowledge and experience in a wide range of clinical therapeutic medical physics, including radiation equipment acceptance testing, commissioning, and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an environment for medical physics research and development.
  • Willingness to gain knowledge of relevant NH policies and procedures, and collective agreements.
  • Mentorship experience in people management, and strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
