Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology is currently in search of a Veterinary Technician to join our esteemed Veterinary Sciences department. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in delivering professional animal care, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, and effective communication (both verbal and written). Proficiency in computer applications, particularly the MS Office Suite, is also essential.

Reporting directly to the Dean of Sciences, the successful applicant will lead a team of part-time Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) and provide essential support to faculty and students within the Veterinary Sciences program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee facilities management, including equipment upkeep;

• Offer technical guidance and assistance to the Full-Time 9-month Veterinary Technician and part-time kennel duty supervisors and students, including scheduling and supervising veterinary sciences students during kennel duties;

• Ensure the welfare of program animals, which includes sourcing, managing their medical care (under the guidance of the colony veterinarian), maintaining medical records, and facilitating their end-of-year adoption or return;

• Act as the Animal Care Committee (ACC) Coordinator, which involves organizing site visits and being primarily responsible for documentation that supports our Canadian Committee of Animal Care (CCAC) accreditation, including protocols, standard operating procedures, and animal usage reporting;

• Manage purchasing and inventory control;

• Assist in laboratory tasks, such as preparing specimen samples prior to classes.

Qualifications:

• A two-year diploma in Veterinary Technology;

• Registration in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (RVT);

• A minimum of three years of experience in a clinical setting or equivalent experience working with animals.
