Position Type: Full-time – 35 hours per week
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Child Protection Specialist, you will:
- Deliver equitable, respectful, and culturally appropriate services to First Nations children and families, adhering to the organization's By-Laws, Policies, Procedures, and the Ontario Child Protection Standards.
- Establish connections with relevant communities to explore service options and strategies that address the challenges faced by First Nations children and families.
- Provide a comprehensive range of ongoing child protection services to an assigned caseload of both voluntary and involuntary clients.
- Conduct investigations and assessments regarding allegations of child abuse and/or maltreatment.
- Respond to crisis situations, evaluate risks to children, and determine necessary actions, which may include alternative placements.
- Advocate for children and families to access various support services within the community.
- Collaborate as a team member to achieve departmental and team service objectives, including performing additional duties as required.
- Coordinate and facilitate customary care and society placements, preparing all necessary documentation and supporting the child and family throughout the admission process.
- Serve as a witness in child welfare, criminal, and juvenile court matters to support the agency's recommendations.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with prior experience in child welfare within First Nations communities, or two years of social service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of OACAS New Worker Training Modules is preferred.
- A valid "G" Ontario Driver's license, willingness to travel, and the ability to work flexible hours and provide on-call services as needed.
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Proficiency in an Indigenous language is considered a significant asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, planning, organizational, administrative, and communication skills, both oral and written.
