Reporting directly to the Dean of Science, the successful candidate will work under the guidance of the full-time Registered Veterinary Technician in the School of Veterinary Sciences. The role primarily involves alternating weekend shifts and occasional weekday shifts to oversee the care of animals in our programs and assist students on kennel duty. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
• Cover morning and evening kennel duty shifts in the Veterinary Sciences Centre on alternating weekends and/or weekday afternoons when regular staff are unavailable;
• Ensure students adhere to established protocols and safety measures for administering medications, feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals during kennel duty;
• Support the veterinarian in administering vaccinations and medical care for animals, while maintaining accurate animal care records;
• Perform light cleaning tasks as required.
Qualifications:
• A 2-year diploma from a Veterinary Sciences Technician program; ideally, a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (RVT);
• A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a veterinary hospital setting, demonstrating professional communication and animal care skills.
