The Role:

Syntron is seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will collaborate with clients to design automation solutions for modernization and new installation projects. Your responsibilities will include preparing technical drafts of engineering scopes, designing control system specifications, creating system architecture diagrams, programming PLCs, configuring HMIs, and establishing network setups.

To excel in this position, you should possess strong technical expertise in PLC/HMI and control network design, along with a minimum of two years of experience in a similar engineering role within an OEM, systems integrator, or engineering firm. Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborating with senior engineers to design, develop, and implement plant-wide control systems for industrial projects across North America and globally.
  2. Assisting in the creation of control system specifications, system architecture diagrams, PLC programming, and HMI configuration.
  3. Participating in hazard and risk assessments for both modernization and new installations.
  4. Analyzing data to specify safety systems based on industry standards.
  5. Generating testing procedures and maintenance documentation for safety control systems.
  6. Supporting the implementation of safety designs, including electrical schematics and commissioning activities.
  7. Engaging in technical discussions with stakeholders and engineers from various disciplines.
  8. Effectively communicating with project stakeholders to resolve technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  9. Exemplifying a strong commitment to quality and engineering design processes.
  10. Contributing to a positive client experience by delivering well-prepared project materials on time.

Travel Requirements:

The Controls Systems Engineer will be required to travel for project-related activities and client meetings. Travel expectations will vary based on project needs.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a diploma or degree in electrical engineering or a related field, and/or relevant industry certifications. A minimum of two years of experience in controls and automation design within industrial settings is required. Additional qualifications include:

Technical Skills:

  1. Understanding of communication network architecture such as TCP/IP and Modbus.
  2. Experience with programming in an industrial context related to PLCs and HMIs.
  3. Familiarity with I/O devices including switches, transmitters, and VFDs.
  4. Exposure to electrical schematics for control and power systems.
  5. Experience with modeling software such as AutoCAD or Solidworks.
  6. Knowledge of North American electrical standards.
  7. Familiarity with hazard analysis and safety system design methodologies.
  8. Ability to interpret process drawings and specifications.
  9. Strong troubleshooting skills and the confidence to propose solutions.
  10. Proficiency in data analysis using spreadsheets.
