Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient daily functioning of the HR Department while adhering to relevant employment regulations. This includes managing the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and learning management system, as well as overseeing biweekly payroll, pension and benefits programs, leaves of absence, and onboarding processes for new employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison for payroll, leaves of absence, pension and benefits, and HRIS/learning system, preparing formal communications for employees and consulting with legal advisors when necessary.
  • Manage payroll processing for the organization, including Records of Employment (ROEs), T4 slips, year-end reconciliations, and liaising with the HRIS service provider to ensure compliance with financial and legislative standards.
  • Coordinate leave of absence and accommodation requests, oversee long-term disability claims management, assist with return-to-work processes, and communicate with external parties and internal management.
  • Administer the group benefits plan and the group registered retirement savings plan, providing employees with information regarding program details or changes and addressing their inquiries.
  • Ensure that employee HR records comply with legislative and organizational standards, maintaining up-to-date information in both physical files and the HRIS.
  • Compile HR dashboards and generate ad-hoc reports, proactively delivering relevant HR metrics to managers to facilitate effective workforce management.

Qualifications:

  • A University degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a generalist human resources role.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or in progress.
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle, with the ability to travel as needed.
  • Strong understanding of employment, payroll, and related legislation and its application within the organization.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey messages effectively and deliver training.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of handling sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, respect, and professionalism.
