Job Summary

The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child Protection Worker to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in providing protection and counseling services to families and children, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Protection and Counseling Services: Offer support and guidance to families and children, including placing and supporting children in alternative care settings when necessary.
  • Conduct Assessments and Develop Service Plans: Undertake thorough assessments of family and individual situations, and develop effective service plans to address their needs.
  • Build Partnerships and Collaborate with Community Agencies: Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including other social services, to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to supporting families and children.
  • Prepare Reports and Documents: Prepare accurate and timely reports, correspondence, and documents for internal and external use, including legal matters.
  • Participate in Case Conferences and Professional Development: Engage in case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Travel within the Region: Travel to meet the needs of families and services, ensuring that our organization's services are accessible and responsive to the community.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as social work or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or a Higher Bachelor of Social Work (HBSW) education is preferred.
  • Cultural Competence and Diversity: Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on eliminating disparity and disproportionality in service outcomes.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Possess a strong understanding of the Child Welfare Organization within the community context, and be able to apply therapeutic approaches with children and families within an anti-oppressive, strengths-based, collaborative framework.
  • Assessment and Intervention Skills: Demonstrate the ability to gather, integrate, and interpret complex information, assess risk, and formulate and carry out service plans in collaboration with the family and other community resources.
  • Crisis Intervention and Time Management: Possess excellent crisis intervention skills and strong time management skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Teamwork and Computer Literacy: Proven ability to work as an integral member of a team and be computer literate.
  • Reliable Transportation and Valid Driver's License: Possess a reliable vehicle, a safe driving record, and a valid G Driver's License.
  • Criminal Records Check: Upon offer of employment, submit a Current Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector), deemed satisfactory to the employer.
