Child Protection Worker – Marathon Office
Full Time, Contract Position – (Up to 18 months hours/week)

The Child Protection Worker is responsible for receiving referral information, investigating claims of abuse and neglect, evaluating the necessity for ongoing agency involvement, and delivering both short-term and long-term therapeutic interventions and support as needed to avert situations that may result in child maltreatment. The incumbent is accountable for case decision-making and guidance. This role is well-suited for individuals interested in rural social work, a dynamic and challenging work environment, and who appreciate working from a collaborative, strength-based approach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver protection and counseling services to families and children, including the placement and support of children in alternative care settings when indicated by safety assessments.
  • Conduct family and individual evaluations.
  • Establish partnerships within the community and collaborate with other social services in a community-based service model.
  • Draft reports, correspondence, and documents for both internal and external purposes, including legal matters.
  • Engage in case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities both within and outside the agency.
  • Travel within the region to address the needs of families and services.

Position Qualifications:
  • B.A. or an equivalent combination of education and experience. B.S.W or H.B.S.W. education is preferred. Candidates with other academic qualifications and relevant work experience, along with demonstrated ability, are encouraged to apply.
  • Contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion with a commitment to eliminating disparity and disproportionality in service outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Child Welfare Organization within the community context, and an aptitude for learning the theories and skill sets associated with child protection work.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying therapeutic approaches with children and families within an anti-oppressive, strengths-based, collaborative framework.
  • Proven ability to gather, integrate, and interpret complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and to formulate and implement service plans in collaboration with the family and other community resources.
  • Excellent crisis intervention skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to function as an integral member of a team.
  • Computer literate.
  • Possess a reliable vehicle, a safe driving record, and a valid G Driver's License.
